Chapter 1 It All Starts With God

For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible... everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him. Colossians 1:16

So many of us are in search for our purpose but start with ourselves instead of God. My lightbulb moment in this chapter was the word, self-sacrifice. Warren quotes the Bible "self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self." I believe that when we give of ourselves or sacrifice, we are truly being like God. There are times when we have difficulty sacrificing for others but our selfishness gets in the way. It is out of love that we sacrifice. A great example is the sacrifice of a mother for her child. The amount of sacrifice a woman goes through to carry, birth and raise a child is from the love and purpose within her. To me, the next biggest sacrifice is giving up your life for someone, which is what Jesus did for us on the cross. I know that to find my purpose I must make more of a sacrifice, offer up myself to others so as to be more like Jesus. I have choosen a career as a teacher to make an impact with my love for others because I am called to do so but now I am wondering if I am not called to do more or maybe I should say, sacrifice more...
